Originally I thought that I would use this space to teach about Gestalt principles or expound on some deep psychological issue. Or discuss relationships like Dr. Phil. Did you know that he makes $80, 000, 000 annually - Eighty million….hmmm….

Therapy taught me how to ride those emotional waves, no matter how turbulent. Therapy taught me to know when I am stuck in an emotional block that keeps me from seeing the big picture. Developing the skills to recognize and to authentically express my feelings and emotions are the greatest rewards of my therapeutic experiences, regardless of which side of the desk I sit on.

I know what doubt and uncertainty feel like. I understand anger, resentment, and jealousy. I have slept with grief and awakened with fear. I know these emotions quite well. And these sensations can be quite scary. But the thing that is so utterly amazing…the gift that Gestalt has given me… is that I am now able to embrace those harder emotions with the same equanimity that I do joy, peace, excitement, tranquility, hope, and expectation.

Real therapy is not about becoming invincible and non-responsive to the things that cause us pain or suffering. Real therapy is about growing and becoming adult enough to understand that all emotions are the gradients that define the human experience.

No. I'm using this blog for me. To share my thoughts. To reveal to you the things I care about…or don't. To complain or celebrate or just be sad. Having witness can be so helpful. It amazes me that in the 21st century, some schools of thought still hold to the belief that a good therapist shows no feelings or emotions. How insane is that? And the people that use their services are misled to believe that becoming emotionless is the hallmark of a stable mind.
